Alumni and Friends
React To Tragedy
|
September 24, 2001
I am responding to your email regarding the events of September 11th. I am
a UWEC alumnus living in New York city and am doing as well as can be
expected. Its hard to describe what going through this has been like living
out here. You can’t walk down the street without seeing pictures of missing
persons up on bus stops, the sides of buildings, cars, etc. There is a fire
station located a block from me, and it is covered with thank you cards and
flowers. So many people worked in the trade center that it is impossible to
NOT speak to someone who was there or knew someone who worked there. As
horrible as this event is, it has also brought out the best in New York
residents. The kindness people have shown towards one another is
astonishing, and the outpour of support for our fire and police officers is
remarkable.
