Dear
UW-EC friends,
Living 90 miles from New York City, the attacks on the World Trade Center were direct.
My husband, who works in Newark, N.J., watched from atop a warehouse as the
towers burned and collapsed. Although I did not know anyone personally among the dead or missing, I know plenty of
people who do, and have talked with some who escaped. The aftermath of these events will be with us a long time.
As a Pennsylvania resident, I am pleased that President Bush has appointed our
Governor, Tom Ridge, to head the Department of Homeland Security.
Gov. Ridge is a good man and will serve with honesty and integrity.
I join with all of you in prayers of comfort for the victims of terrorism and in
the wish for justice and peace.
