UW-Eau Claire Offers Support to Alumni

September 20, 2001

UW-Eau Claire Alumni and Friends,

We at UW-Eau Claire hope that this message finds you and your family safe and as well as one can be following the tragic events of September 11.

UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and students have come together in the wake of this tragedy in a number of ways to offer support to one another, as well as to the victims, their families and the rescue workers. Candlelight vigils, discussions in and out of classrooms about the events and the issues that surround the attacks, and fund-raising events to offer financial support to those in need are just a few of the ways our campus community has responded to this national tragedy.

Much of the correspondence relating to the campus’ reaction to the terrorist attacks can be found on our Web site. You’ll find a link under Headline News on our home page that will take you to messages sent to the campus by the Chancellor, as well as news releases about campus events and activities connected to the tragedy.

We also are starting to hear from some of our alumni who were directly affected by the tragedy. We know that as large as the UW-Eau Claire alumni body is, we are still a family; thus, there is great concern among alumni about the well-being of fellow UW-Eau Claire graduates.

If you live or work in the New York or Washington, D.C., areas, please let us know you are OK by sending us an e-mail message. We also welcome e-mails from any alumni who would like to share thoughts or personal stories or news about last week's tragedy. We will post some communications we receive from alumni and friends on the university’s Web site. (These also can be accessed by clicking on the link under Headline News.) Please indicate in your message if you do not want your information shared on the site.

As a graduate of this university, you would be proud of how quickly and wholeheartedly our students, faculty and staff stepped forward to offer comfort and support to those people directly affected by the terrorist attacks. And they did this as they struggled with their own reactions/grief to these horrific events.

Please know that our hearts, our prayers and our sympathies go out to those of you directly affected by this tragedy.

Take care,

John Bachmeier
Director of Alumni Relations
