Senior Americans Day set for March 18 at UW-Eau ClaireJanuary 9, 2014
EAU CLAIRE — The 26th annual Senior Americans Day will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. March 18 in the W.R. Davies Student Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Designed for adults 55 and better, this year's theme is "Fun, Fit, Focused and Fulfilled!" The goals of the event include dispelling the myths of aging; reinforcing positive aspects of aging; and providing information to help meet the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of older adults.
The keynote speaker is award-winning travel writer Rudy Maxa, host and executive producer of 91 television episodes on the world's great destinations that air on PBS stations nationwide. Maxa will present a keynote address titled "Blue Zones: Secrets to a Long and Healthy Life."
Participants design their day around choices from more than 30 workshops covering topics such as health and fitness, estate planning, floral design, local history and community service. Entertainment will be provided in the afternoon by folk singer and songwriter Matt Wahl. Participants also may visit two exhibitor halls filled with representatives from more than 60 area businesses and service organizations.
The cost of the program is $40 per person, which includes breakfast, lunch and all event materials. Some breakout sessions may have additional fees for materials.
Senior Americans Day is sponsored by UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension in cooperation with Aging & Disability Resource Center of Eau Claire County, Bernicke & Associates Ltd., Evergreen Funeral Home and Crematory, Grace Lutheran Foundation, Sacred Heart Hospital and St. Francis Apartments, and is planned by community representatives committed to the interests of older adults.
