Internationally known composer to visit UW-Eau Claire Nov. 6

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host Libby Larsen, an internationally known composer, as a composer-in-residence in the music and theatre arts department Nov. 6.

Larsen's residency, sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Visiting Minority Scholars and Artists Program, will include the following events:

  • 2-2:50 p.m.: Rehearsal with the Women's Concert Chorale, Room 143, Haas Fine Arts Center.
  • 3-4 p.m.: Music presentation, Room 159, Haas Fine Arts Center.
  • 4:15-5:15 p.m.: Composition master class with students, Room 159, Haas Fine Arts Center.

Larsen is the recipient of numerous awards, grants and fellowships, including a Grammy Award and the Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts. She also is the first woman to serve as a resident composer with a major orchestra and has held residencies with the California Institute of the Arts, Arnold Schoenberg Institute, Philadelphia School of the Arts, Cincinnati Conservatory, Minnesota Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony and Colorado Symphony.
