Campus mall restoration to close central walkway, Schofield Hall entrancesJuly 5, 2013
Editor's note, July 11, 2013: UW-Eau Claire's Central Campus Mall restoration project has been delayed and is expected to begin sometime the week of July 15.
EAU CLAIRE — Construction fencing for the Centennial Hall (formerly referred to as the Education Building) project at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will be extended west beginning July 9, making Schofield Hall's east entrances and the sidewalk east of the building inaccessible until late summer. (See a campus map detailing the area to be closed.)
The fencing will be extended as work begins on the restoration of the university's Central Campus Mall area between Centennial Hall and Schofield Hall. Workers also will remove and reconstruct the stairways at the two Schofield Hall east entrances.
Features of the restored Central Campus Mall will include:
- A central "hub" gathering space. See an overhead view of the plan.
- Moving the "Sprites" sculpture from its current location just northeast of Schofield Hall to the "hub" of the mall. See the artist's rendering of the new "Sprites" sculpture location.
- 47 new trees. See the tree-planting layout.
The Central Campus Mall restoration and stairway reconstruction are expected to be completed in late summer.
