Symphony Band, Mondovi High School Band to present spring concert May 5May 2, 2013

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band and the Mondovi High School Band will perform at 5 p.m. May 5 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The Mondovi High School Band, under the direction of 2006 UW-Eau Claire music education graduate Adam Boll, will open the concert with "The Avengers," by Alan Silvestri, "Vesuvius" by Frank Ticheli and "Music from Jurassic Park" by John Williams.
Symphony Band, under the direction of Dr. Phillip Ostrander, associate professor of music, will perform a variety of works, including "Green Light" by Mary Ellen Childs; "Sheltering Sky" by John Mackey; "Cajun Folk Songs, Part One" by Frank Ticheli, conducted by senior Justin Kevan, Genoa City, the Conducting Competition winner; Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major by Mozart, featuring junior Melissa Nehm, New Berlin, the Concerto Competition winner on flute; and "Shakata" by Dana Wilson. The concert will conclude with "Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.
Symphony Band, composed of music majors and talented non-music majors, is committed to the study and performance of the finest standard and contemporary works for band. The ensemble, open to all university students by audition, performs four concerts per year with a concert tour each spring.
Tickets, available online and at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $6 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger, and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
