Public relations major receives Minnesota PRSA scholarshipApril 16, 2013
EAU CLAIRE — Olivia Jeske, a junior public relations major at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has been awarded the Dr. Willard Thompson Scholarship from the Minnesota Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
"I am honored to be recognized for this scholarship by Minnesota PRSA," Jeske said. "When I first applied, I thought my chances of being selected were slim. Being told that I was a finalist was a shocking and exciting moment for me."
Jeske, from Shawano, has been a member of the UW-Eau Claire Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America for less than a year, but said she believes her involvement in the organization has supplemented what she is learning in the classroom.
"While I learn the elements of public relations writing and strategic planning in my course work, I am able to talk directly to experts in these areas through the various workshops and meetings that PRSSA offers," Jeske said. "That face-to-face interaction with professionals is so important in public relations."
This summer, Jeske will serve as an intern in the corporate communications department of a business located in Green Bay, and said she hopes to find a job with a company or public relations agency after she graduates in December.
"Receiving this award has helped me realize that I made the correct decision when I decided to go into public relations," Jeske said. "I have chosen a field that I am passionate about and in which I believe I can use my full potential. I am eager to see where this career path will lead me in the future."
