EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the Me La Amargates Tú ensemble at 7:30 p.m. April 3 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
Prizewinners of the International Jewish Music Competition in Amsterdam, Me la Amargates Tú arose from the interest and research of its members in Sephardic music, which has its roots in the musical traditions of the Jewish communities in medieval Spain, as well as on Spanish music from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
Me la Amargates Tú is composed of Esteban Manzano, tenor; Sarah Ridy, harp; Tulio Rondón (UW-Eau Claire assistant professor of music), viola da gamba; Cristian Gutiérrez, guitar; and Juan Martinez, percussion. Featured guest artists will include Cléa Galhano on recorders, Marc Levine on violin and Ginna Watson on rebec and harp.
The group will perform a variety of works, including "La tricotea San Martin la vea" by Franco Alonso and "Dime triste coraçón" by Francisco de la Torre.
The members of Me la Amargates Tú have studied with teachers considered world leaders in the field of early music, such as Jaap ter Linden, Peter van Heyghen, Christina Pluhar, Donna Agrell and Rainer Zipperling.
Me la Amargates Tú performs numerous concerts around the world, and its members work from The Hague, Netherlands, the city where their interests and research joined to bring back the sounds from Sefarad, an area consisting of today's Spain and Portugal.
The guest artist recital is free and open to the public. For more information about UW-Eau Claire music events, visit the music events calendar.
