Trio performance March 13 to feature guest violinist

March 7, 2013

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present a guest artist and faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. March 13 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The recital will feature guest violinist Dr. Lynn Ledbetter, along with UW-Eau Claire faculty members Dr. Melissa Koprowski, assistant professor of music, on clarinet; and Dr. Owen Lovell, assistant professor of music, on piano.

The evening will open with Trio for Violin, Clarinet, and Piano by Aram Khachaturian. The second piece, titled "Suite from 'L'Histoire du Soldat' (The Soldier's Tale)," by Igor Stravinsky, includes five movements. Based on a Russian folk tale, "L'Histoire du Soldat" tells the story of a young soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil in exchange for a book that would predict the future of the economy. The recital will close with "Contrasts" by Bela Bartok, a piece based on Hungarian and Romanian themes.

Ledbetter, a native of Austin, Texas, holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of Houston as well as master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. Following nine years as a faculty member at the Eastern New Mexico University, she returned to the Austin area to serve on the faculty at Texas State University as a professor of violin.

In addition, Ledbetter has served on the music faculties of the College of Saint Scholastica and the University of Southern Mississippi. Most recently, she finished work as chair of the violin committee for the upcoming third edition of the American String Teachers Association's "String Syllabus." She currently holds the office of president-elect for the Texas chapter of the American String Teachers Association.

The recital is free and open to the public. For more information about UW-Eau Claire music events, visit the music events calendar.
