Student applications invited for Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity

February 22, 2013

Cerca-570_1EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity is now accepting students' abstracts and applications for performances, oral presentations, exhibits and traditional poster presentations. The last day for students to submit will be March 7.

CERCA, formerly known as Student Research Day, has been revamped to include a broader range of presentation types, all highlighting student-faculty collaborative research and scholarly activities. The updated event name reflects the scope of activities and the diversity of research done at UW-Eau Claire.

"It is very exciting to be expanding a successful event with a 20-year tradition to encompass a broader variety of scholarly presentations," said Dr. Karen Havholm, director of the Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration.

UW-Eau Claire has a strong record of undergraduate research. Twenty-five percent of seniors report working on a research project with a faculty mentor outside of a course. This is above the national average, according to the National Survey of Student Engagement.

CERCA will be held May 1-2 in Davies Center. With the new presentation formats, there will likely be more than the 278 projects presented at last year's event.

Students who are interested in submitting an abstract and application for their project can visit the ORSP website.
