Tickets still available for Feb. 28 Aldo Leopold BanquetFebruary 8, 2013
EAU CLAIRE — Tickets are still available for the eighth annual Aldo Leopold Banquet and silent auction which will be held from 5-10 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Westgate Sportsman Club.
The popular banquet — collaboratively hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Environmental Adventure Center — will introduce students and community members to the Aldo Leopold land ethic and pass the conservation torch to the next generation.
The event will feature comments by Kenny Salwey, author and star of the Emmy-award-winning film "Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat." Renowned author and outdoorsman John Hildebrand, UW-Eau Claire professor emeritus of English, will serve as the program's emcee.
Other speakers and their topics will be as follows:
- Dr. Debra Barker, UW-Eau Claire professor of English and director of the university's American Indian studies program, will present "Teachings from the Remembered Earth: A Native American Perspective."
- UW-Eau Claire student Joe Rupslauskas, a representative of the UW-Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club student organization, will discuss his research, "Trigger Itch: Aldo Leopold and the Evolution of a Sportsman Ethic."
- Patricia Popple, representing Concerned Chippewa Citizens and Save the Hills Alliance Inc., will present "The Demolition of Wisconsin Sandstone Hills, Bluffs and Ridges: Would Aldo Care? How About YOU?"
The menu will include beef, pork loin wrapped in bacon, vegetarian options, pies donated by Norske Nook and free wild game samplers donated by the UW-Eau Claire student Rod and Gun Club.
Tickets for the banquet, available at the University Service Center in Davies Center or by phone at 715-836-3727 or 800-949-8932, are $25 for the public and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, and $15 for UW-Eau Claire students. Seating is limited to 300 so advance ticket purchase is requested.
