EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present a guest artist recital featuring David Werden, euphonium, and Dr. Barbara Young, piano, at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The recital will feature a variety of pieces, including Concerto in E-flat major — "Rondo" by Johann Hummal; Tchaikovsky's "Romance in Fm," arranged by Werden; "Beauty and the Beast" by Alan Menken and "Hungarian Melodies" by Vincent Bach.
A graduate of the University of Iowa, Werden was the euphonium soloist with the U.S. Coast Guard Band for 26 years. He has performed throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, England, Japan and the former Soviet Union. Werden also has performed on soundtracks for NBC television as well as Hollywood movies, and in live concerts with the New York Philharmonic and the Minnesota Orchestra. In 2012 Werden began working with Adams Custom Brass as an Adams euphonium artist to help the company enhance its professional euphonium.
Young is a UW-Eau Claire lecturer of music. Her American credits include several world-premiere chamber works; recitals with members of the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and other leading orchestras; solo and collaborative performances at the Interlochen Arts Camp as a member of both the faculty and accompanying staff; live radio broadcasts and performances throughout the Midwest and South. Young has accompanied faculty members from a number of prestigious universities and conservatories.
