Tessa Perchinsky to begin registrar duties Feb. 18January 14, 2013
Perchinsky will begin her new duties Feb. 18. She succeeds former registrar James Barrett, who stepped down last July.
"We have hired an innovative and energetic professional to lead the Registrar's Office," said Dr. Patricia A. Kleine, UW-Eau Claire provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. "Given her higher education experience working in various offices tied to student success and her many skills, I am confident Tessa Perchinsky will be an active and effective campus leader."
Perchinsky has been the registrar at Chippewa Valley Technical College since July 2011. At CVTC, she has provided leadership and management for the development and execution of registration and academic record functions, course and event scheduling, academic standards and veterans' certification for 23,000 part-time and continuing education students and 5,000 full-time program students. Her main focus at CVTC has been redeveloping business practices, including a major project that involved the conversion of more than 25,000 student records to common academic standard codes; redefining all business practices related to end-of-term processing, grading, and withdrawals; and executing a related communication plan to students.
Before serving as registrar at CVTC, Perchinsky worked in several positions at UW-Whitewater, most recently as interim associate registrar. In that post, she had oversight responsibility for all registrar's office operations and staff supervision. She also served previously as an admissions counselor for nonresident students and as a senior academic adviser at UW-Whitewater.
"I am honored to join UW-Eau Claire as registrar, and I'm thrilled to be part of the exciting and dynamic Blugold community," Perchinsky said. "I embrace the opportunity to lead a skilled records and registration team in the essential work they do for the campus. My interactions with UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff have reinforced to me their commitment to their values which I find so critical. I will strive to work collaboratively across campus to assist in providing excellent services and innovative solutions."
UW-Eau Claire's Registrar's Office provides services related to the creation and maintenance of academic records. It oversees student registration, coordinates course rolls and grade submission, and maintains academic transcripts. The office also publishes the undergraduate and graduate catalogs, provides diplomas, administers enrollment verifications, assigns classroom space and handles the administration of all military educational benefits. The registrar reports to the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
Along with overseeing these services, the new registrar also will support the significant ongoing efforts by the Registrar's Office staff to improve the institution's use of technology in the creation and maintenance of academic records, Kleine said.
Perchinsky received a bachelor of science degree in human resources and business administration from Valley City State University in Valley City, N.D., and a master of business administration degree from the University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, S.D.
