EAU CLAIRE — American Place Theatre will perform its Literature to Life stage presentation of "The Kite Runner" Jan. 29 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Artists Series program will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.

"The Kite Runner" was rescheduled due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Those holding tickets for the Nov. 1, 2012, performance may present those tickets on the revised show date.

The adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's 2003 novel is a story of guilt and redemption, brutality and kindness, sin and forgiveness. It portrays the relationship of two boys, a privileged Pashtun and a Hazara servant — one rich, one poor, one flawed, the other pure.

The American Place Theatre produces high quality new work by diverse American writers. Its Literature to Life program brings books to life — giving voice to words and inspiring young people to find their own voices. Utilizing original Afghani music, this one-person performance takes audiences on a heartbreaking journey of friendship and betrayal in a society of severe class division against a backdrop of 1970s Afghanistan. Pre-show and post-show discussions will explore themes including redemption and class systems.

Tickets are $17 for the public, $15 for those 62 and older and UW System or Chippewa Valley Technical College faculty and staff, or $7 for those 17 and younger and UW System or CVTC students. Tickets for students are $3.50 until the day of the show. On the day of the event, students must pay the full student-ticket price. All seats are general admission.

Tickets are available at the Service Center counter in the east lobby of Davies Center and also will be sold at the door.

Patrons may also charge their tickets to Discover, MasterCard or Visa when they purchase online or order by phone. Call 715-836-3727 or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free 800-949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all online and telephone charge orders.

Funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire, the Artists Series is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Wisconsin Public Radio and WHYS Radio have contributed generous promotional support.

The Artists Series is administered by the Activities, Involvement, and Leadership office of the University Centers.
