McIntyre Library staff to raise funds for Hmong Mutual Assistance AssociationNovember 26, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire McIntyre Library Staff Association, a voluntary organization composed of library faculty and staff, again will accept donations for its annual fundraiser to benefit the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association.
The association has held the fundraiser for more than 15 years, raising thousands of dollars for the HMAA.
The HMAA is a social service agency that serves the local Hmong community by operating a food pantry and assisting in housing, employment and translating services. The agency also works with other area services to assist the local Hmong community.
Last year, HMAA distributed 9,275 pounds of rice to 1,276 people who rely on the food pantry for their basic sustenance. The need this year is comparable to last year, according to HMAA executive director Pa Thao. A donation of $20 can feed a family of five or six people for a month, Thao said.
Anyone is welcome to contribute to the library staff's project.
New this year is the option to make a donation in someone's name. If a name and address is provided, the McIntyre Library Staff Association will send the person a greeting card acknowledging the gift.
Checks, made payable to McIntyre Library Staff Association, or cash should be submitted via mail or campus mail by Dec. 18 to Dan Hillis in Room 5012 of McIntyre Library. Donations also may be dropped off at the library reference desk or in the donation box located on the first floor of the library next to the new-book shelf.
Names of contributors will be included on a letter accompanying the donations. Contributors who wish to remain anonymous should make this preference known. Donors should include an email address if they would like confirmation of the receipt of their contribution.
