Higher Education Awareness Week set for Nov. 10-16November 8, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — A weeklong series of events designed to promote higher education to Chippewa Valley youth will take place from Nov. 10-16 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and in the community.
The activities, which are aimed at informing and exciting area youth about higher education, will involve hundreds of elementary, middle and high school students.
Higher Education Awareness Week activities include:
- Student mentors from UW-Eau Claire's Blugold Beginnings program will bring their fifth- through 12th- grade mentees to campus for a college presentation Nov. 10. They also will attend Hmong New Year activities on campus.
- College application writing workshops will take place throughout the week in area high schools. College mentors from Blugold Beginnings also will host writing workshops to help with college application personal statements.
- Contests such as College Bingo, College Trivia, Wisconsin and Minnesota College Search and College T-shirt Day will be held in area elementary, middle and high schools throughout the week.
- Higher Education Awareness Week is co-sponsored by Blugold Beginnings, the Eau Claire Area School District, Augusta School District and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
Blugold Beginnings is a program aimed at educating and inspiring students to believe that a post-secondary education is important, attainable and available at UW-Eau Claire and other institutions. It brings together current university students with elementary through high school students from several Chippewa Valley schools.
