EAU CLAIRE — Staci Heidtke, associate director of Career Services at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, received the Nora McGuire Outstanding Professional Award from the Wisconsin College Personnel Association Oct. 11 at the annual WCPA convention in Wisconsin Dells.

The award recognizes student affairs professionals who demonstrate initiative, creativity and innovation in their work. Recipients also exhibit excellence in overall job performance and contribute to their profession through staff development, mentoring and positive role modeling.

Heidtke joined Career Services in 2007 as the internship coordinator for arts and sciences students. She works with students to help them understand how their liberal arts education translates into skills in the workplace. In 2011 she became associate director of Career Services, after serving in an interim role in 2008 and 2009.

Heidtke was nominated for the McGuire Award by Jacqueline Bonneville, assistant dean of students at UW-Eau Claire.

"I wanted to share with the state and our campus what a gem we have directing our career services on campus," Bonneville said.

In supporting Heidtke's nomination, Dr. Debbie Gough, director of UW-Eau Claire's Student Success Network and Heidtke's supervisor, wrote "Staci has worked tirelessly to develop a cohesive team devoted to serving students. Helping students develop and reach their career goals is her passion and she has made certain that everyone in the office knows that this is what the office is all about. Staci has helped the staff evaluate and change programming so it serves students better. She has been the ultimate role model — hard working, eager to change what needs to be changed, and a caring and concerned counselor."

Heidtke said she was honored to receive the award.

"Helping young people develop into professionals is an extremely rewarding part of my job," Heidtke said. "I am fortunate to work with wonderful students and supportive colleagues here at UW-Eau Claire."

WCPA is a state division of the American College Personnel Association, College Educators International Inc. The nonprofit organization provides low-cost, high-quality professional development opportunities to student affairs professionals in the state of Wisconsin.
