Sara Thommesen receives WCPA awardOctober 23, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — Sara Thommesen, manager of Davies Center's Student Organizations and Leadership Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, received the 2012 Support Staff Recognition Award from the Wisconsin College Personnel Association Oct. 11 at the annual WCPA convention in Wisconsin Dells.
The award recognizes support staff members on Wisconsin campuses who provide daily support for students, faculty and staff, and strive to support the mission of their department and institution. Recipients demonstrate genuine concern for student development and campus life, excel in their job responsibilities and contribute positively to the work environment.
Thommesen has worked for the Activities, Involvement and Leadership office of the University Centers for the past seven years, assisting more than 250 student organizations at UW-Eau Claire. This is the second time she has been recognized by the WCPA; she first received the Support Staff Recognition Award in 2009.
Thommesen was nominated by Joseph Haferman, coordinator of student organizations and late night activities, who called her "a wonderful, supportive co-worker."
"I have been working with Sara for approximately one year, and I know that my transition to UW-Eau Claire would not have gone as smoothly without Sara to help," Haferman wrote in nominating Thommesen. "Furthermore, as I have worked with Sara this year I have seen her as someone who is committed to helping students and staff. She tirelessly answers questions through emails, phone calls and walk-ins while maintaining her positive attitude. She is committed to the success of student organizations and often sets aside time to help teach student organization leaders how to utilize OrgSync or to better understand the rules governing student organization processes.
"Sara has numerous responsibilities, not just to student organizations," Haferman wrote. "She is an instrumental part of the operation of University Centers at UW-Eau Claire."
