David Lonzarich named ORSP faculty fellow at UW-Eau ClaireSeptember 13, 2012
|Dr. David Lonzairch|
In his role as ORSP's faculty fellow, Lonzarich will participate in UW Systemwide efforts to institutionalize undergraduate research. Those efforts will be aided by a conference development grant recently awarded by UW System to Dr. Karen Havholm, assistant vice chancellor for research and director of the Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration.
"With this grant support, statewide conferences will be held in spring 2013 and during the 2013-14 academic year to identify ways for campuses to work together on undergraduate research initiatives," Havholm said.
In addition, Lonzarich will continue the initiative to enhance institutionalization of undergraduate research at UW-Eau Claire, which began with the Council on Undergraduate Research workshop on campus in fall 2011 and will continue with a follow-up session in February 2013.Initial work includes identifying the breadth of activities involved in undergraduate research and creative activities on campus to develop a shared understanding of those activities across all disciplines.
"This collaboration among disciplines will help us learn from each other about different methods of research or scholarship and how faculty and students can collaborate," Lonzarich said.
"One of the goals of the ORSP faculty fellow program is to provide an opportunity to obtain different experiences and make new connections," Havholm said. "These
experiences influence the fellows' teaching, research and scholarly activities, ultimately benefiting UW-Eau Claire students. ORSP also gains from the fellows' faculty perspective."
