Final phase of Davies demolition to beginJuly 5, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — Large-scale demolition of the original W.R. Davies University Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will begin this week or the week of July 9.
Employees who worked in the facility have moved to offices in the new W.R. Davies Student Center, and crews have been removing asbestos and windows and completing other interior demolition before the large-scale demolition of exterior walls begins. Demolition of the old Davies Center east entrance, northeast ramped entrance and canopy, and tunnel/breezeway leading to Schofield Hall was completed in late May.
The demolition of the old Davies Center is expected to be completed by Aug. 10. The site of the old student center will become part of an expanded campus green space and amphitheater.
The new Davies Center is expected to be opened to students and the public in late July, although several food and beverage options will not immediately be available. Access to the new Davies Center initially will be from the south and east across the Phillips parking lot and via campus routes to the west and northwest. Direct pedestrian access to the new Davies Center across the Central Campus Mall is expected to open in late August.
