UW-Eau Claire footbridge repairs to resume June 25June 22, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — Repairs started last summer on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire footbridge will resume June 25.
Repairs on the span over the Chippewa River will be to the bridge's deck surface and a support pier beneath the water line. A completion date has not yet been determined, but work will be finished before the start of fall semester classes.
Work on the project will be restricted to one half of the bridge at a time, leaving the other half open for pedestrian traffic, said Randy Hoover, an engineering specialist in Facilities Management at UW-Eau Claire. Bicyclists will be asked to walk their bicycles, and skateboarders will be asked to carry their skateboards when crossing the bridge during the repair project.
Work will start on the downriver (west) half of the bridge. Beginning June 25 and for approximately one week, the steps at the north end of the bridge near the Haas Fine Arts Center will be closed. As work progresses to the south end of the bridge across from Schofield Hall, the south-end ramp will close temporarily and people will access the bridge via the steps located opposite the ramp. Bicyclists will need to carry their bicycles up and down the steps during that time.
The ramp and steps at both ends of the bridge will remain open during work on the upriver (east) half of the bridge.
