EAU CLAIRE — Jeremy Miner, director of grants and contracts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, was elected chair of the Region IV section of the professional development organization, the National Council of University Research Administrators.

"NCURA has more than 7,000 members nationwide and Region IV is one of the largest sections with nearly 1,200 members," said Miner, who works in UW-Eau Claire's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. "It is an honor to be able to give back to an organization and region that has given me so much."

Region IV is the mid-America section of NCURA, and it includes research administrators in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

As a volunteer-driven association, NCURA is committed to advancing the field of research administration through education and professional development programs, the sharing of knowledge and experience, and by fostering a professional, collegial and respected community.

One of Miner's first tasks as chair-elect of Region IV is to organize the 2013 spring conference, which will be held in Milwaukee.

"I anticipate that there will be great interest from colleges, universities and nonprofit health organizations across the state, since it was more than a decade ago when the April conference was last hosted in Wisconsin," Miner said.

Miner also serves on NCURA's National Professional Development Committee and recently published an article, "Behind Door #3: the Hard-to-Please Grant Reviewer," in NCURA's scholarly journal, Research Management Review.

"The comprehensive range of support that faculty and staff receive in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is a direct reflection of Jeremy's commitment to staying at the forefront of the research administration field," said Karen Havholm, UW-Eau Claire's assistant vice chancellor for research. "His efforts also help to enhance the national reputation of UW-Eau Claire."

Individuals who are interested in learning more about the NCURA Region IV 2013 spring conference are invited to visit the regional website or contact the UW-Eau Claire Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at or 715-836-3405.
