Second annual Provost's Honors Symposium set for May 4

May 1, 2012

EAU CLAIRE — Eighty students will present 37 research, scholarly and creative projects from 1-5:10 p.m. May 4 during the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's second annual Provost's Honors Symposium.

The symposium, which is free and open to the public, will be on the second floor of Schneider Hall. A closing reception will be held at 5:15-6:30 p.m. in the second-floor lounge and breezeway of McIntyre Library. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

"Part of our mission in the University Honors Program is to support and promote top-quality intellectual and creative work across the university," said Dr. Jeff Vahlbusch, University Honors Program director and associate professor of German. "The Provost's Honors Symposium enables us to showcase students who, in the judgment of their faculty and staff nominators, are performing at the highest levels in research, scholarship and creative activities."

Student presenters and projects were nominated for the symposium by UW-Eau Claire faculty members and academic departments. The University Honors Council, in consultation with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and nominating faculty and departments, then made the final selections of symposium participants.

Participants are from all four UW-Eau Claire colleges (Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Sciences, and Nursing and Health Sciences) and represent academic disciplines from across the university.

Each individual or team presentation will be 15 minutes, followed by a discussion. View the full symposium schedule, including presentation titles and abstracts.

The Provost's Honors Symposium for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, University Honors Program, and Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
