Symphony Band to present spring concert April 29April 25, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band will perform at 5 p.m. April 29 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The concert will open with a guest performance by the Chippewa Falls High School Band.
Symphony Band, under the direction of Dr. Peter Haberman, assistant professor of music, will begin with "Kirkpatrick Fanfare" by Andrew Boysen. Concerto for Trumpet by Alexander Arutiunian will follow, featuring concerto competition winner Elizabeth Tomlinson, a senior from Clive, Iowa, on trumpet.
Next will be "Serenade" by Derek Bourgeois, followed by "A Soliloquy for Solferino" by Martin Ellerby.
Senior Nick Drayton, Middleton, conducting competition winner, will conduct "English Folksong Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The concert will continue with "Suite from Mass" by Leonard Bernstein.
"Internal Combustion" by David Gillingham will close the concert.
Symphony Band, composed of music majors and talented non-music majors, is committed to the study and performance of the finest standard and contemporary works for band. This ensemble, open to all university students by audition, performs four concerts per year with a concert tour each spring.
Concert tickets, available online and at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $6 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger, and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
