Jazz Ensemble III to perform spring concert April 26April 25, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble III will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. April 26 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.Dr. Jeff Crowell, associate professor of music, will direct the concert.
The concert will open with "Fly Me to the Moon" by Bart Howard, featuring sophomore Ben Nelson, Northfield, Minn., on alto saxophone. "Andromeda" by Jay Chattaway will follow, with sophomore Sam Kolve, Eau Claire, tenor saxophone; Nathan Rakow, Sparta, trombone; freshman Ben Gordon, Neenah, trumpet; and freshman Joe Hujet, Appleton, drums.
"Ya Gotta Try … Harder" by Sammy Nestico will include senior Alex Chilsen, New Richmond, on piano and junior Josh Frederick, Milwaukee, on guitar. "Mo' Moleids" by Chuck Owen will feature Kolve on tenor saxophone, Chilsen on piano and Frederick on guitar.
The concert will continue with "(It's Just) Talk" by Pat Metheny, featuring freshman Henry Bergmann, Minneapolis, Minn. on trombone, and Chilsen on piano.
Gordon Goodwin's "Mueva Los Huesos" will highlight freshman Rick Haneman, Lake Geneva, and Hujet on percussion, Chilsen on piano, and Kolve on tenor saxophone. "Ruby's Theme" by Bill Reichenbach will feature Bergmann on trombone.
"Haitian Fight Song" by Charles Mingus will feature sophomore Hope Quade, Mount Horeb, on bass; Kolve on tenor saxophone; Bergmann on trombone; freshman Rose Mish, Pine Island, Minn., on violin; Chilsen on piano; and Haneman on drums.
Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $4 for the general public; $3 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger, and faculty and staff with a university ID; and free for students with a university ID.
