Guest artist recital April 18 to feature violist Aurélien Pétillot

EAU CLAIRE —The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host a guest artist recital featuring violist Dr. Aurélien Pétillot at 7:30 p.m. April 18 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The recital will open with "Fantasy Etude No. 15" by Lillian Fuchs. "Sechs langsame Sätze und dreistimmige Fugen" by W.A. Mozart will follow, and will include Nobuyoshi Yasuda, associate professor of music, on violin, and Dr. Tulio Rondón, assistant professor of music, on cello.

Pétillot will continue with "Capriccio Op. 9 Posthumous" by Henri Vieuxtemps. Next will be Sonata I in E flat major for viola with violin accompaniment by Alessandro Rolla. Yasuda will also be featured on this piece.

Casimir Ney's "Prelude No. 22, 'The storm'" will be next, followed by "Sainte Cécile, Romance" by Auguste Panseron. Soprano Dr. Mitra Sadeghpour, associate professor of music, and pianist Lori Cruciani, lecturer of music, also will be included in this piece.

The recital will close with Suite for Viola Alone by Quincy Porter.

Pétillot, founder and artistic director of Viola by Choice, previously was on the viola faculty at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He has garnered much esteem as a versatile and engaging performer, lecturer and pedagogue. Pétillot has performed as a guest artist and soloist in Europe and North America, including with such ensembles as Sound Inversions, the American Repertory Ensemble, the Texas Bach Choir, the Balcones Orchestra and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale. He also has performed with the Cavani, Azmari, Mirò and Tosca string quartets and has toured with The Young Eight.

The guest artist recital is free and open to the public.
