New major gifts officer joins UW-Eau Claire Foundation staffApril 6, 2012
Rick Foy, a 1980 UW-Eau Claire journalism graduate, began his duties Feb. 20. He will be primarily responsible for working with the university's alumni and friends in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area as well as selected geographic areas of the United States.
He replaces Kyle Buchmann, a 2005 UW-Eau Claire management graduate, who has accepted a new position in Madison.
Foy, a former sports director at WEAU-TV in Eau Claire, has held numerous marketing, communications and public relations positions throughout his career, including that of founder and president of Foy Strategic Communications, where he served as consultant to a variety of clients, including financial and educational institutions. He has held short-term teaching assignments in the area of communications at UW-Eau Claire and Concordia University in St. Paul. He also earned a master of science degree in communications management from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse (N.Y.) University.
Foy received UW-Eau Claire's Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award in 1993 and has been active on the university's Alumni Association and Foundation boards.
"I'm honored to represent the UW-Eau Claire Foundation and carry the university's message of excellence to the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin alumni communities," Foy said. "On a professional level, the position offers the unique and rewarding opportunity of joining a proven and exceptional development team as it leads UW-Eau Claire's advocacy and fundraising initiatives. On a personal level, I'm looking forward to engaging with alumni, hearing their stories and helping build awareness of ways to give back to an institution that has meant so much to me and my family."
Foy will be a member of the major gifts team that will work on the UW-Eau Claire Foundation's Centennial Campaign, which will coincide with the university's 100th anniversary in 2016, said Kimera Way, executive director of the Foundation.
"Rick Foy could be considered 'Mr. Blugold,' so we are thrilled that he has agreed to join our team to become an integral part of our advancement efforts," Way said. "Rick and wife Melanie both served on the Alumni Association board, Rick is a former president and they are alumni award recipients. Their daughter just graduated from UW-Eau Claire, so their entire family has had a long and close relationship with the university. His enthusiasm for his alma mater and his past professional experiences are the perfect combination for him to have great success in this new endeavor."
The Foundation is responsible for raising funds to support the level of excellence in teaching, learning and service for which UW-Eau Claire is known and cannot maintain with federal and state support alone. Every year the Foundation provides more than $3.7 million to the university to support programs and projects ranging from scholarships and faculty development to facility enhancements and equipment.
