Blugold Beginnings to receive funds from RCU Charity ClassicApril 6, 2012
Earlier this year, RCU employees nominated charities they felt should receive funds from this year's event, which will be held June 30 in Phoenix Park in downtown Eau Claire.
After reviewing the nominations, a committee of employees identified two categories — homeless shelters and mentoring programs — as finalists. A Facebook voting competition was then used to decide which category would receive proceeds this year. The mentoring programs category won the online competition.
The programs included in RCU's mentoring category were UW-Eau Claire's Blugold Beginnings, Kinship of Polk County, and Kinship of Rice Lake and Cameron counties.
"We are excited and thankful for this opportunity provided by RCU," said Lissa Martinez, Blugold Beginnings program coordinator. "This is our first time partnering with RCU and we look forward to new business collaborations in the future. The contributions awarded to Blugold Beginnings will provide college scholarships to underrepresented students who have come through the program, in addition to helping with summer and academic year programming for fifth- through 12th-grade area students."
The RCU Charity Classic will consist of several races — a 10K walk/run, a 2 mile walk/run, and 1/2 and 1/4-mile children's races. For more information on race times and registration fees, visit the RCU Charity Classic website.
The race is open to all community members, students, faculty and staff.
