EAU CLAIRE — An April 16 concert to "Break the Silence!" will recognize the National Day of Silence at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The National Day of Silence is an annual day of action during which participants nationwide take a vow of silence to protest the bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. April 16 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
Event participants will include, but are not limited to: Miss Dee-Lovely, the Dean of Students office, Audacious, Career Services, 5th Element, the Affirmative Action office, Anthony Reed, Dr. Barbara Kernan, the Student Life and Diversity Commission of the Student Senate and Christopher Jorgenson.
The event is designed to emphasize the roles discrimination, bigotry, ignorance and misunderstanding play in silencing the LGBTQ community, according to organizers.
The program is sponsored by the Women's and LGBTQ Resource Center, which advocates for the welfare of those who have historically been marginalized because of their sexual and/or gender identity.
