Continuing Education to offer new summer writing camp for youthMarch 16, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will offer a Summer Writing Camp for students entering grades 7-10. The camp will be held from 9 a.m.-noon June 25-29 on the UW-Eau Claire campus.
The writing camp will explore storytelling in fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Students will create written and digital stories focusing on subjects and styles that interest them. Classes will include a "writing crawl" in downtown Eau Claire, opportunities to build digital narratives using software and iPad applications, and collaborations with a Volume One staffer to write about local events and venues. The students' best writing will be compiled and published in a camp chapbook.
Dr. Carey Applegate, UW-Eau Claire assistant professor of English, will lead the instructional team of faculty, teachers, community professionals and college students. The camp curriculum is aligned with Wisconsin's Common Core State Standards for Writing.
The course fee is $169, which includes 15 hours of instruction and a copy of the camp chapbook.
