Blugold Dining contributes more than $1,000 to St. Jude HospitalFebruary 28, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — The Blugold Dining team at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire became a Partner in Hope during the 11th Annual B95 Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon Feb. 16-17, donating more than $1,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
For about a year and a half, Blugold Dining has participated in an employee program called Jeans Day for Charity. Every Friday Blugold Dining employees are invited to contribute $1 to the fund in order to wear jeans while working. Participating staff members wear a sticker that acknowledges their charitable donation.
Charities supported in past years include the Eau Claire and Chippewa County Humane Associations, Bolton Refuge House, The Community Table and the Salvation Army's adopt-a-family program. Blugold Dining decided on this year's charity when the B95 Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon began on WQRB 95.1 FM. The Jeans Day for Charity fund had grown to $525 since December, and B95's limited-time matching program made it possible for Blugold Dining to make a total donation of $1,050. The contribution helped B95 surpass the $1 million mark for the 11 years it has participated in the Country Cares for St. Jude Kids program — a national effort that brings together more than 200 country radio stations in the fight against childhood cancer.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, is one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Children throughout the United States and around the world have been treated at the facility in Memphis, Tenn., and thousands more around the world have benefited from the research conducted at St. Jude — research that is shared freely with the global medical community. All patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay.
Sodexo Operations LLC has provided Blugold Dining service on the UW-Eau Claire campus since 2002. The Blugold Dining program is administered by the University Centers, a Student Affairs unit of UW-Eau Claire.
