Music student and music grad to perform in prestigious Milwaukee recital

EAU CLAIRE — A current University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student and a recent graduate will be among those performing this week in a recital sponsored by the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee.


Anthony Reed, a senior vocal performance major from  Alexandria, Minn., and Kevin Newell, a 2010 UW-Eau Claire graduate who is pursuing a master's degree in voice at the University of Michigan, will participate in the St. John's recital. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at St. John's on the Lake in Milwaukee.

The annual St. John's event features three winners from the 2011 Wisconsin District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

Newell, a tenor, received an Encouragement Award at the prestigious auditions competition. Reed, a bass, was one of five singers selected to advance to the Midwest regional auditions to be held Feb. 4 at the Ordway Center Main Hall in St. Paul, Minn.

Vocal performance major Meagan Seubert, a soprano, also earned honors during the fall 2011 event. Seubert, a senior from  Eau Claire, received an Encouragement Award.

The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions is one of the most prestigious singing competitions in the United States and is known worldwide for its potential impact on the career development of young singers.
