Student theater group brings 'I Bet It Was the Butler' to Kjer TheatreJanuary 11, 2012
EAU CLAIRE — The UWEC Players will present "I Bet It Was the Butler," a comedic murder mystery, Jan. 20-22 and Jan. 27-28 in Kjer Theatre at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
"I Bet It Was the Butler" is written and directed by members of the UWEC Players. The play is about a wealthy man who is murdered, and his wife, nurse, lawyer, maid and butler are the prime suspects, said co-director Tyler Edmondson, a senior theatre arts major from Appleton.
Edmondson and Katie Gerarden, a senior theatre arts major from De Pere, co-direct the play, which stars six members of the UWEC Players. The Players, self-described on Facebook as a "renegade theatre group" on campus, produces student works outside the university's regularly scheduled mainstage productions.
"I Bet It Was the Butler" was written by Alex Brandt, a junior education major from Schofield, and final editing of the script was done by Rachael Bejin, a senior theatre arts major from Eau Claire, and Marissa April, a senior theatre arts major from Seymour. Bejin also is the stage manager for the UWEC Players.
The cast includes Dan Devine, a senior public relations major from Osceola; Tabitha Tatro, a sophomore history major from Antigo; Aubry Eggers, a senior history major from Wauwatosa; Ashley Whitcomb, a senior theatre arts major from Duluth, Minn.; Scott Krueger, a senior theatre arts major from Eagan, Minn.; and Michael Renner, a senior English major from Waukesha.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 21 and 1:30 p.m. Jan. 22. The play will resume the following weekend with performances at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28. Tickets are $7 for the public and $5 for students, and can be purchased at the Kjer Theatre box office.
