The Spectator and staff members to receive WNA awards

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student newspaper, The Spectator, and several of its staff members will be recognized Feb. 24 with the following awards during the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Convention in Madison:

  • Debora Biasutti, a senior journalism major from Brazil, will receive a first-place award in the investigative reporting category for her Feb. 10, 2011, story, "Complainant Speaks Out." Biasutti and Frank F. Pellegrino also will receive a second-place award in the investigative reporting category (see below).
  • Frank F. Pellegrino, a senior journalism major from Shorewood, and Debora Biasutti will receive a second-place award in the investigative reporting category for their Feb. 3, 2011, story, "Frat Faces Sexual Assault Allegations." Pellegrino also will receive an honorable mention in the sports reporting category for his Nov. 11, 2010, story, "Student Wants Baseball Back."
  • Brian Miller, a senior mass communication-advertising major from Germantown, will receive a second-place award in the best advertisement category for an ad titled "You Have 10,784 Friend Requests."
  • The Spectator will receive the third-place award for general excellence.
  • Samuel Rosenberry, a senior journalism major from Waunakee, will receive a third-place award in the sports column category for his April 14, 2011, column, "McIlroy Falters at Masters," and his April 28, 2011, column, "Schools Getting Around Title IX." Rosenberry also will receive an honorable mention in the sports column category for his April 7, 2011, column, "A Tale of Two Brackets."
  • Carolyn Tiry, a senior journalism major from Amherst, will receive a third-place award in the column writing category for her April 28, 2011, column, "Redefining 'People.'"
