Ensemble 2013-14 Audition
November 2, 2013, 10am – 12:30pm
Registration begins at 9:30am
The Ensemble is the department's primary, dance performance group at UW-Eau Claire and is the performance ensemble that performs in the annual main-stage dance concert, Danceworks. In addition to the main-stage concert, students engage in outreach and performance in the greater Eau Claire community.
Functioning much like a professional company, the Ensemble is an auditioned group of performers who engage in an intensive rehearsal process, supported by their commitment to physical practice and theoretical studies in the Dance Program. The Ensemble is a performance laboratory---an opportunity for students to learn about choreographic process from national and international dance artists and to further develop their knowledge in dance and performance techniques. The Ensemble is the catalyst for students to enter into the contemporary dialogue of dance in performance, locally and globally, planting seeds with experience and knowledge for their future endeavors in dance.
Auditions for the Ensemble are held in early November, with rehearsals beginning in the Spring semester. Students do not need to be a dance minor to be involved; however, students must be concurrently enrolled in a dance technique class in the spring semester. Students register for a performance practicum credit for their involvement in the performing group and must be available for the full rehearsal schedule. Typical dance program rehearsals are M/W 4p-6:15p and F 1p-4p (time varies on Friday, dependent on the cast).
*Audition will consist of a contemporary dance warm-up, phrase work, group improvisation and choreography (no preparation needed for this portion). For further information please contact dance faculty, Julie C. Fox at firstname.lastname@example.org.
