Opera on Wheels

Opera on wheels

Opera On Wheels is the touring outreach arm of the University of Wisconsin-Eau
Claire 's Opera Workshop Ensemble. Our mission is to simultaneously provide training in the art of singing and opera performance for our student cast members, and to create enriching, high-energy opera experiences for elementary age children throughout Western Wisconsin. Past productions have included The Magic Flute, Cinderella, Help! Help! The Globolinks! and Alice in Opera Land. Over the past thirteen years, Opera On Wheels has performed throughout Northwestern and Western Wisconsin for over 35,000 elementary school students! In 2010 the ensemble is proud to present an adaptation of Humperdinck's opera Hansel and Gretel, and is currently taking bookings for our tour!

Based on the Grimm brother's fairy tale, this is an enchanting story about the woodland adventures of two children who triumph over an evil witch. The 40-45 minute performance includes a short introduction that will teach children what to listen for, the performance itself, and a question and answer session after the performance. Enrichment materials that can be used to prepare students for the opera performance are available at the bottom of this page.

Please contact Jessica Riley, director of the ensemble, at rileyj@uwec.edu or (715) 836-2262 for information or to be placed on our mailing list.

We are pleased to be able to bring opera to children in Western Wisconsin.
Opera On Wheels looks forward to performing at your school in the spring of 2010!
