Opera Workshop Ensemble

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Opera Workshop Ensemble!

Bel Canto - Opera Workshop Ensemble

Each semester, the Opera Workshop Ensemble offers performing opportunities for students interested in broadening their operatic and music theatre knowledge and experience. In the fall semester, the workshop, which meets as a class four hours a week, produces a scenes program or a one-act opera with piano. Full productions with orchestra in the spring semester alternate annually between musical theatre and opera in collaboration with the Theatre area. Past productions include The Magic Flute, Hansel & Gretel, Albert Herring, Bel Canto Masters, The Merry Widow, Pirates of Penzance, Cabaret, Gianni Schicchi, Suor Angelica, The Mother of Us All, A Little Night Music, and many others. Also a part of the Opera Workshop program is its outreach arm, Opera on Wheels. This touring ensemble travels to elementary schools throughout western Wisconsin, giving many children their first opera experience and teaching them about the fundamentals of opera. The Opera Workshop is directed by Dr. Kenneth Pereira and music directed by Dr. Mark Mowry. Students serve in many design and leadership roles.

Involvement in the Opera Workshop Ensemble is open to all UW-Eau Claire students by audition. For further information, please contact Opera Workshop director Dr. Kenneth Pereira (pereirkj@uwec.edu).
