F. Reed Brown joined the faculty of UW-Eau Claire Music and Theatre Arts Department in the fall of 2009. Reed is an actor, director, choreographer and Artistic Director of Freed-Yorick Theatre Ensemble. Previously, he taught at Johnson State College in Vermont and Illinois College. He holds a MFA in directing from Illinois State University, a BA in Theatre from the University of South Florida in Tampa and studied acting for two years with Stella Adler at her conservatory in NYC.
Reed is the co-founder of the Ozark Actors Theatre, an Equity theatre located at the University of Missouri-Rolla, he directed and/or choreographed over 60 productions during his 14 years as artistic director there. He has worked with a wide variety of theater companies: La Mama ETC, the Manhattan Ensemble, Bread and Puppet Theatre, St. Louis Black Rep, and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. He recently spent more than eight years portraying Vincent van Gogh in Leonard Nimoy’s Vincent, touring 14 states and Canada. He was the original Hamlet in the U.S. premiere production of Heiner Muller's Hamletmachine with the Freiese Theatre of Munich.
