Membership is open to students of any major and represents virtually every discipline and department on campus. While music majors are still the largest single group in the band they are now outnumbered by non-music majors. A majority of the members are from the state of Wisconsin but the number of out-of-state members (especially from Minnesota) is rapidly growing. The size of the Blugold Marching Band grew to an all-time high membership of 134 students in 2004 and the band is expected to grow to approximately 175 students in 2005.
Prospective members should contact Dr. Randal C. Dickerson (dickerrc@uwec.edu) for information on the 2005-06 season.

In the past few years the Blugold Marching Band has become one of the most active and energetic groups on campus. In 2004 the BMB gave eleven performances, including halftime of the Packers vs New York Giants football game, four Blugold home games, one away game at St. John's University, two exhibitions, two parades, and a stage show at Gantner Concert Hall.
In 2003 the Blugold Marching Band went through an image transformation. A new, more energetic style of marching was introduced. The unique marching style of the BMB combines the precision and artistry of drum and bugle corps with the high energy level of some of the great show bands of the south. The result is powerful and exciting and is sure to enliven any crowd. Based upon crowd response and feedback through letters and emails the new style is stirring a lot of excitement in the community.

To keep up with its rapidly expanding size, the BMB has undertaken a major fundraising campaign to purchase an additional 30 uniforms and other needed equipment. Donations to this fund may be directed toward the Marching Band Advancement Fund of the University Foundation, Carole Halberg, president. (Link to flyer.)

2004 Season Last fall the “hardest working band in Wisconsin” teamed up with the “ hardest working man in show business” to bring their audiences the music of James Brown! The Blugold Marching Band took its new “ funk factory ” image to a higher level with a larger color guard, a larger horn line, a new dance line, and even more “ move and groove. ” A recording
of the full halftime show and many other highlights of the season are now available on the 2004 Blugold Marching Band CD. This recording contains much of the traditional music of the Blugolds plus several standard tunes and the complete James Brown halftime show.

2005 Performance Schedule
This fall will be the most exciting season yet for the Blugold Marching Band. Carson Park will be transformed into a Miami-South Beach party and will rock to the Cuban-Latin sounds of Gloria Estefan! The energy that has been developing for the past few years will be even more infectious as the dance line and guard are featured even more prominently. To top it off the band will bring the party to the audience with its own version of South Beach conga.
