Cheryl L. Starr, Professor in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts, serves as the Publicist and Director of Theatre for Young Audiences for the theatre area. Dr. Starr received her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in theatre from the University of Minnesota and her undergraduate degree in speech and drama from Northern Michigan University.  Dr. Starr taught at the University of Wisconsin-Superior before coming to UW-Eau Claire in 1988 and spent thirteen years serving as costumer at UW-Superior and UW-Eau Claire. Primary research interests include arts education and K-12 drama curricula as well as audience development. She participated in the writing of the Wisconsin K-12 Theatre Curriculum Guide and the WI State Standards in Theatre, K-12. Additionally, Dr. Starr developed a drama curriculum for the Eau Claire Public Schools' Gifted and Talented Program and was a writer for the national 4-H theatre curriculum. Her 2004 sabbatical research focused on “Ways and Means of Introducing Shakespeare to Middle School and Elementary Aged Students” including visits to Stratford and the new Globe Theatre in England; workshops and performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare for Kidz and the Folger Shakespeare Library and Theatre Company in Washington, D.C.  This research has resulted in an annual Shakespeare Festival with area middle schools (Delong Middle School, May of each year) and the High School Shakespeare Workshop held each summer through the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild.
