The UW-Eau Claire Music & Theatre Arts Department presents more than one hundred concerts and recitals annually featuring large and small student ensembles, faculty ensembles, solo faculty recitals, student degree recitals, guest artist recitals; five mainstage plays; an active opera theatre ensemble; a one-act play festival; touring theatre; Danceworks, and several special events such as the nationally-recognized Jazz Festival and Viennese Ball.

Ghanian American pianist William Chapman Nyaho presents a unique multicultural celebration of composers of African descent from Ghana, Nigeria, Cuba, Jamaica, Egypt, Great Britain and the United States.

"This altogether enthralling recital of keyboard works in many styles reveals that this music deserves a regular place on concert programs. The composers - from Nigeria, Jamaica, England, Egypt, Ghana and the United States - are masterful creators who embrace European, American and African idioms. Dr. Bruce Tychinski, originally from Altoona, PA, is Assistant Professor of Trombone at The University of Southern Mississippi. Timothy Schorr
is a strong advocate of both solo and collaborative piano literature from all musical periods.  His performance credits in the United States and Europe include Carnegie Recital Hall, the Schubert Club Courtroom Concert Series, Wisconsin Public Radio, the Kunst Universität in Graz, Austria, the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, and the Edinburgh Society of Musicians in Scotland.  He frequently adjudicates, presents workshops, and gives master classes throughout and has authored and edited publications for Keyboard Companion Magazine and Hal Leonard. He earned a DMA in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati and is currently Associate Professor and Music Department Chair at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Mary Ellen Haupert

Mary Ellen Haupert has extensive experience collaborating with singers and instrumentalists, including peformances with the Artaria String Quartet, La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, and La Crosse Chamber Chorale.  She has appeared on the Schubert Club Courtroom Concert Series, on Wisconsin Public Radio, at the Edinburgh Society of Musicians (Scotland), and at universities throughout the United States.  She has studied the Taubman Technique for over ten years and has an avid interest in historical keyboard instruments and the baroque flute.  She earned a Ph.D. from Washington University and is Assistant Professor of Music at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  She is also Director of Music at Roncalli Newman Parish in La Crosse.

Sunday, October 25th will mark the third Upper Midwest Trombone Summit, held at the Haas Fine Arts Center of the campus of University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.  The event will feature trombone ensembles from Lawrence University (Nick Keelan, director), UW-Eau Claire (Phil Ostrander, director), UW-River Falls (Rick Gaynor, director)  and University of Minnesota (Tom Ashworth, director) in a 5 PM concert at Gantner Hall in Eau Claire.  The event will conclude with a short massed trombone ensemble performance.  Learn more about the event schedule and directors at:

Pianist Robert Weirich has performed in musical centers throughout the United States, including Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and at such summer festivals as Tanglewood, Ravinia and Marlboro. During the 2009-2010 season, he will perform and teach in China and Argentina, and serve as convention artist for the State Music Teacher Associations of Kansas, Wisconsin and South Carolina.

Metallifonia
is a duo formed by saxophonist Olli-Pekka Tuomisalo and pianist Risto-Matti Marin. They have created a new musical style–heavy chamber music. A number of leading Finnish classical composers have arranged heavy rock classics for them. Included are works by Led Zeppelin, Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen. Their CD Far Beyond the Sun was nominated CD of the month in several Finnish music magazines (Aug. 2008). Olli-Pekka Tuomisalo is one of the leading classical saxophonists of our time. He has performed ca 100 times as a soloist with symphony orchestras around the world. He has also released six solo CDs. Risto-Matti Marin is one of the most interesting pianists of his generation. He has released a number of highly acclaimed solo CDs.
