Women's Concert Chorale to perform at ACDA convention

Women's Concert Chorale, directed by Dr. Alan J. Rieck, Associate Professor of Music, has been invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Association North Central Division Convention this spring.

The ACDA North Central Division Convention, hosted by North Dakota State University in Fargo, will feature performances by some of the finest ensembles throughout the Upper Midwest. The Women's Concert Chorale earned this honor by auditioning and were among those asked to give a concert stage performance. Their concert performance on Friday, March 7 at 1:30 pm will include O frondens virga by Hildegard von Bingen; Wand’ ich in dem Wald des Abends by Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn; L’Amicizia by Faustina Hodges; Koowu by Maryam Khoury; Hope is the thing with feathers by Emma Lour Diemer; Lifegiver by Cristine Temple-Evans; and Mouth Music by Delores Keane/John Faulkner. Joining the Women's Concert Chorale during their performance of Koowu and Mouth Musicwill be Dr. Jeffery Crowell, guest soloist on percussion, and UW-Eau Claire music faculty.

The Women’s Concert Chorale, one of seven choral ensembles at UW-Eau Claire—“Wisconsin’s Singing University,” specializes in the study and performance of music written specifically for treble ensembles.  The group is comprised of female students from many scholastic disciplines within the University.  In addition to regular concerts during the school year, the group tours and is featured during the UW-Eau Claire Viennese Ball annually, performing significant works from the breadth of music’s historical periods.  The Women’s Concert Chorale performed as a feature ensemble at the Wisconsin Music Educator’s Association Fall Conference in October 2002 and performed in their first international tour to the People’s Republic of China in March 2005.  Friendship in the study of literature written specifically for the uniquely beautiful sound of female voices and excellence in performance characterize the work and long tradition of the Women’s Concert Chorale.
