Applied Mathematics

Applied Mathematics at UWEC

At UWEC, you can be a mathematics major with an applied emphasis. This is a standard, 36 credit major, and requires a 24 credit minor.

Students take the liberal arts core: the calculus sequence, Linear Algebra, Introduction to Real Analysis, and Abstract Algebra. This core consists of 22 credits.

Students then take at least 14 elective credits from a wide selection of upper level courses such as Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, Digital Signal Processing, Fourier Optics, Numerical Analysis, and Mathematical Modeling. For a complete list of electives, see Applied Emphasis (Code 180-204) of this excerpt from the most current UWEC Undergraduate Catalog.

See the website of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics for information about careers in applied mathematics.
