Homework Exercises: Procedural Skills
Summer 2003

Exercise sets in the textbook are grouped by topic. For each section of the textbook that we will cover in this course, we have assigned topics that correspond to those basic procedural skills that we want you to focus on when you study. You will not need to turn in these assigned exercises, but you should work enough of the odd-numbered exercises to feel comfortable with the topic. We encourage you to work these exercises with other students in class, seek help in Math Lab, and get help from your instructor during office hours.

After you think you have mastered the topics, you should take a MapleTA-based homework quiz. These quiz questions will be similar to the assigned exercises. In general, the deadline for taking the quiz is Wednesday, if the section is covered on Monday, Thursday if the section is coverer on Tuesday, an on Monday if the section is covered on Wednesday or Thursday.  Deadlines for taking these homework quizzes are indicated below.

Your individual performance on these homework quizzes should give you some indication of how well you are preparing yourself for exams. In order for this indication of exam preparation to be meaningful to you, we expect that you will work the questions on these homework quizzes with paper-pencil-mind and with your textbook on hand, but that you will not use Maple to produce answers.
