DEPOSITORY MAP COLLECTION
The federal depository library program considers the depository map collection to be a community resource, as well as an academic resource. Use by the general public is encouraged. Maps circulate, are checked out and returned to the library’s first floor Circulation Desk, and are subject to library and depository rules.
Most of the collection’s 100,000 maps are USGS topographic maps that cover the fifty states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and Antarctica. Selected topographic maps of Canada are also available. The other collection of note is the Bureau of Land Management land-use and mineral management maps.
The paper indexes needed to identify the names and numbers of specific maps are kept on index tables close to the map cases. Information on map scales and symbols is posted in the area.
If assistance is needed, ask for help in person at the first floor reference desk or call 715-836-3858. Also feel free to contact Leslie Foster (715-836-3247 or fosterla@uwec.edu) or Mary Hayden (715-836-3421 or haydenm@uwec.edu).
