Distance Education Library Services

Have Books & Articles Sent to You

To use this service, you must:

  • Be a UW-Eau Claire student enrolled in distance education courses and live outside of the Eau Claire area.
  • Register for this service once each semester that you qualify.
  • Use your UW-Eau Claire email address (or have email forwarded).

Request a book 

Books from our library's circulating collection are mailed to you at no charge. 

  • Use the online request form. (Log in using your UW-Eau Claire username and password).
  • Select "Request a book" from the lefthand column
  • Fill in the information you have about the book you are requesting
  • For the question "Are you a distance education student" be sure to answer YES.
  • Please plan ahead, allowing up to a week for delivery.


Returning books: You are responsible for returning the books (as well as for any overdue charges or replacement fees that might be incurred). Some options for returning books:

  • Mailing them (you are responsible for the cost of returning books)
  • Returning them to any UW System library. They will be returned to UW-Eau Claire free of charge
  • Through a Wisconsin school or public library. Many Wisconsin libraries participate in a courier system through which they can return a book to UW-Eau Claire at no cost to you. Please check with your local school or public library to see if this option is available.

Request a journal article

Most articles are available online. However, if the journal article you need is available only in print in McIntyre Library, we will scan it and email it to you.

  • you can either use a direct link ("find it" or "request") from within a database you are searching. It will take you directly to the request form. Otherwise, go to the online request form. (Log in using your UW-Eau Claire username and password).
  • Select "Request an article" from the lefthand column
  • Fill in the information you have about the article you are requesting
  • For the question "Are you a distance education student" be sure to answer YES.
  • Articles are usually sent within 2 days, often sooner.

If McIntyre Library doesn't have what you need:

  • Journal Articles: We can request copies of journal articles from other libraries. It may take anywhere from a couple of days up to 2 weeks to get the article.
  • Books: Through Interlibrary Loan Department we can get some books from other libraries and mail them to you. However, it may be faster to go through your local library. Please check with your local public library about getting a book you need through their Interlibrary Loan service.
  • If you live near any of the UW campuses, Universal Borrowing (UB) is fast way of getting books available at any UW System library.

Your Email Address

  • Journal articles, fees, and overdue notices are emailed to your UW-Eau Claire address.
