Fine and Fee Information

Overdue Materials

A checkout receipt is emailed at the time of checkout. Another courtesy email is sent 4 days before the item is due. A full activity email of all items currently checked out and all current fines is automatically sent on the 2nd day of each month.

Overdue fees vary depending on the item (see chart below).

Lost Items

If you think you have lost an item, you may contact the Access Services Supervisor to work out a replacement option. If nothing is done, once an item is overdue by 28 days, it is declared lost and a replacement fee is charged to the account. After 120 days, the replacement fee along with all overdue fees associated with the item may be forwarded to the Business Office for collection.

A full refund of the replacement fee will be given if the lost item is returned in satisfactory condition within 120 days of the time the replacement fee is charged. Overdue fees for the lost item will still be enforced . The library will no longer accept the return of a lost item that has already been forwarded to the Business Office.

Maximum Fine Amount

Anytime your total fines are equal to $200 or more, your library account will be blocked.

Paying Library Fines

Library fines can be paid in person at the Circulation Desk. Cash, check (payable to "UW-Eau Claire), credit/debit, and Blugold (not including declining) are accepted. If you are not able to make it to the library to pay in person, you can contact the Access Services Supervisor to discuss your options for payment. You may also mail your payment to:

McIntyre Library-Circulation Desk
UW-Eau Claire
105 Garfield Ave
Eau Claire, WI 54702-4004

Fine Appeals

If you feel you are being unjustly fined, you may submit a fine appeal. You can fill out the online Fine/Overdue Appeal Form or print out our Fine/Overdue Appeal Form (.pdf) and submit a paper copy. Paper appeals can be dropped off at the Circulation Desk or mailed to:

McIntyre Library-Circulation Desk
UW-Eau Claire
105 Garfield Ave.
Eau Claire, WI 54702-4004

A fine can only be appealed once. If a fine has already been appealed, reviewed, and a decision on the fine has already been made, it cannot be appealed again.

Appealed fines must be paid within 20 days of the time the decision is made on the appeal. If the fine is not paid within 20 days, your library account will be blocked until the entire fine is paid off.

Payment Plans

If you need to set up a payment plan to pay off your fine(s), you may contact the Access Services Supervisor.

Unpaid Fines

Fines and fees which remain unpaid for 120 days may be sent to the Business Office for collection. Fines and fees forwarded to the Business Office can no longer be appealed, reduced or waived. Library accounts forwarded to the Business Office will be blocked until the entire fine has been paid to the Business Office. The Business Office will also put a hold on your registration and all academic records until the fine is paid off.
