Connecting to the Wireless Network


To connect your device to the UWEC network, you will need to register its Wi-Fi Address (also called its MAC Address) with the university. Every device that connects to the UWEC network has a unique address that distinguishes it from all other devices.

Below are instructions for connecting several different devices to the UWEC network. To learn how to register other devices, visit the page on Connecting to the Wireless Network.

Android (2.1 or newer)


  1. To begin, open the Settings settings application. Select WiFi and connect to "UWECregister".

  2. Open your Internet browser and navigate to "netreg.uwec.edu"

  3. On the Network Registration site, pay attention to any announcements before selecting Continue.

  4. Enter your UWEC credentials and click Continue.

  5. Select Manage Network Access.

  6. Select "Register Device" on the following screen.

  7. Select "Step 1: First, Install the App to install Xpress Connect".  

  8. Select Google Play store to open the XpressConnect app, and install it.

    NOTE: The Google Play store requires a screen lock to be enabled in order to install the XpressConnect app. Once the registration process is completed, the screen lock code can be removed. A screen lock is not required for Android devices to access the UW - Eau Claire Wireless Network.

  9. Once the app is installed, open it. You may disregard the XpressConnect notice regarding UWEC servers, and press OK at the bottom of the screen.

  10. Go back to the Network Registration page, and proceed to Step 2.

  11. This will open an Xpress Connect window detailing what changes will be made to your device. Select Continue.

  12. The next few windows will describe the default settings and configurations for your device on the network. You will not need to enter information, even when prompted to "enter a password" or "name the certificate". Simply press Continue or OK on each of these screens, and your device will be registered on the UWEC network.

  13. Select Done to complete the registration process.

     


Apple iOS Devices


  1. Select the Settings app settings and connect to the "UWECregister" network.

  2. Open up Safari (It must be Safari, this process will not work with other browsers).

    NOTE: If you are not automatically redirected to the Network Registration page, you may need to manually navigate to "netreg.uwec.edu" and login using your UWEC credentials in order to continue.

  3. Navigate to "netreg.uwec.edu".

  4. Select Manage Network Access.

  5. Enter your UWEC credentials and click continue

  6. Select Register Device

  7. You will be prompted to install the UWEC profile onto your device. Select Install.

  8. A Root Certificate window will appear, select Install Now.

  9. You will be prompted to enter your passcode if your device has one.

  10. Select Done when finished.

  11. Your device should automatically connect to the network "UWEC". If not, open Settings and manually select the UWEC network. This will complete the registration process.

 

 

Windows



On the current operating system of Windows phones, you will need to register your Windows phone using its MAC Address. This will be changed during the next OS update. To find your phone's MAC address:

  1. From the Windows Phone home screen, swipe left to reveal more icons. Then, scroll down and tap Settings

  2. Scroll down and tap About

  3. In the About screen, tap More Info.

  4. The MAC address will display toward the bottom of the screen.

Tablets

Kindle 


 

Kindle / Kindle Touch / Kindle Paperwhite

  1. Tap the Menu button on the home screen

  2. Select Settings

  3. Tap the Menu button again

  4. Select Device Info

  5. Scroll down to find the Wi-Fi MAC Address

 

Kindle Fire / Kindle Fire HD / Kindle Fire HDX / Kindle Fire Phone

  1. Tap the Settings icon on the home screen

  2. Tap on More

  3. Tap on Device

  4. Scroll down to find the Wi-Fi MAC Address

 

Nook


 

Nook Simple Touch / Glowlight

  1. Press the Home button

  2. Select Settings

  3. Scroll to find the MAC Address

Nook Color / Nook HD / Nook HD +Plus

  1. Tap the Nav Arrow on the bottom of the screen

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Device Info

  4. Select "AboutYour Nook"

  5. The MAC address is on this screen.
