Desire2Learn is a course management system used by many UW-Eau Claire faculty to enhance face-to-face instruction or for totally online courses. To get started with Desire2Learn, you will need to know the following information:
For students and faculty, Desire2Learn requires the following:
- An Internet connection.
Because most content is data intensive, a cable or DSL connection is preferable when accessing D2L from off-campus.
- A recent web browser.
For recommendations and compatible configurations, visit the University of Wisconsin Knowledgebase. Additionally, Desire2Learn requires your browser to have Java and Cookies enabled. Internet Explorer for Windows and Safari for Macs are the only supported browsers on UWEC campus computers.
- An email account.
Your UWEC email address is linked in the D2L email tool.
- Macromedia Flash Player.
Flash is required on many course pages. To download the most recent version of the free Flash player, refer to the Adobe website.
NOTE: Depending on the course, instructors may require additional software or hardware for accessing certain D2L content. Students should check directly with their instructors for course-specific requirements. Instructors should notify students of any additional hardware or software requirements.
Students who are taking a course hosted by UW-Eau Claire but who do not come to the physical campus will receive their username and initial password via U.S. Mail.
The Desire2Learn screen will generally refresh automatically to reflect recent changes. If the screen does not update to reflect the changes, you can refresh/reload manually. Additionally, Desire2Learn requires your browser to have Java and Cookies enabled.
The browser you use when accessing D2L is important. UW-Eau Claire supports Internet Explorer and Safari browsers on campus computers. Other browsers will work with Desire2Learn however. For a complete list of browsers compatible with D2L, view the information or additional recommendations and supported configurations, visit the University of Wisconsin Knowledgebase: Learn@UW Recommended Software and Browsers
Printing Desire2Learn pages can be a bit challenging as Desire2Learn is based on frames. To ensure that you are printing the desired information, click within the area you want to print before sending it to the printer.
If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements, follow these steps.
- Access the Desire2Learn Login page and scroll down to view the System Check message.
- Click System Check.
The Eau Claire - System Check page appears. If there is a green Passed for an item, that requirement is met.
